Deutsche Telekom Selects Motorola's IPTV Set-Tops

By Jai C.S., TMCnet Contributor

Motorola has signed an agreement to deliver IPTV in Germany with Deutsche Telekom (News - Alert), a provider of entire spectrum of IT and telecommunications services.

As per the terms of the agreement, Deutsche Telekom will use Motorola's (News - Alert) high-definition (HD)-ready IPTV set-tops for its "T-Home Entertain" services. This collaboration is aimed at offering T-Home customers the facility to access a variety of multimedia applications other than the standard TV offerings.

T-Home is a brand of Deutsche Telekom which focuses on the growth area of broadband, telephony products and services at home.

"As our customers become ever more sophisticated in their media consumption habits, we chose Motorola's set-tops to ensure we provide our customers with the best possible TV service, on-demand and in High Definition as well," said Christian Illek, board member at T-HOME, marketing.

Motorola’s HD-ready IPTV (News - Alert) set-tops are equipped with advanced and interactive features for future services.

“Consumers continuously demand more choice, convenience and control over how they watch video content," said Joe Cozzolino, corporate vice president and general manager, Motorola Home and Networks Mobility EMEA.

"Motorola's IPTV set-tops enable operators such as Deutsche Telekom to capitalize on consumer demands and efficiently deliver compelling, rich media services to their customers -- on their schedule,” added Cozzolino.

Motorola will be offering the new generation IP HD set-tops, VIP1616E set-top -- known to T-Home customers as Media Receiver 300 Type A. With the device, subscribers to T-Home's Entertain service will be able to view premium sporting content in full HD.

This set-top with digital video recording (DVR) supports standard definition high-quality digital video. Its two-way IP capability allows it to be used in multiple applications, including broadcast television, time-shifted television, multicast and video on-demand (VOD). The VIP1616E is fully compliant with Microsoft (News - Alert) Mediaroom.

The contract also allows all T-Home viewers to use the device's electronic program guide to plan, record, and store the programs.
