Camiant Supports Comcast and Time Warner On-Demand Video Protocols

By Anuradha Shukla, TMCnet Contributor

Camiant (News - Alert) has announced that it is the industry's first independent vendor to deliver support for both of the cable industry's major on-demand video protocols. Camiant is supporting Comcast's (News - Alert) proposed Next Generation On Demand (NGOD) architecture and Time Warner Cable's fostered Interactive Services Architecture (ISA) with its award-winning Universal Edge Resource Manager (UERM) solution.

By leveraging Camiant’s UERM, cable operators can maximize bandwidth efficiency across multiple services including video on-demand (VOD), switched digital video (SDV), addressable advertising and video-delivered Web content through the sharing of QAM (quadrature amplitude modulation) RF resources.

According to Camiant, partial funding for the development of its award-winning Universal Edge Resource Management solution has been provided by BIRD, the Israel -- U.S. Bi-national Industrial Research and Development Foundation. The company refers to studies that show edge resource management to provide bandwidth savings of up to 20 percent.

Camiant’s UERM support for NGOD and ISA enables cable operators to not only better manage their advanced on-demand applications, but also better allocate resources for creative and demographically targeted high-bandwidth services for environments using either architectural environment.

Randy Fuller, vice president, business development of Camiant, pointed out that cable operators look to NGOD and ISA for open standards, network flexibility and scalability. Today, these same operators are looking to Camiant for an independent and cost-effective solution to intelligently manage, control and allocate all the latest, next-generation on-demand services.

Thanks to Camiant's UERM with NGOD and ISA support, operators can creatively and aggressively offer new on-demand services by reclaiming bandwidth to be reallocated to support all of the new innovative services that are rolling out to subscribers every day.

Leveraging Camiant’s dual support, cable operators can easily do more with their network resources regardless of what their video environment looks like. Camiant's UERM offers all MSOs an independent mechanism to optimize precious bandwidth whether targeting desired demographic communities with relevant video services or introducing new high-bandwidth services such as on-demand games and Web to TV content, said the company’s officials.

This year, Camiant integrated its UERM solution with several video applications including SeaChange's Axiom On Demand open content delivery platform; BigBand's Switched Digital Video solution; ActiveVideo's ActiveVideo Distribution Network; and Visible World's IntelliSpot addressable advertising platform.

In related news, Camiant entered into a technology partnership with Visible World, an end-to-end solutions provider for addressable and targeted video advertising. This alliance aims to enable cable operators to significantly ease their deployment of emerging video and addressable advertising applications through the efficient use of cable bandwidth.
