Jiangsu Cable has selectedBigBand's Broadband Multimedia-Service Router (BMR) to process and deliver digital television services, including high-definition (HD) and interactive television. BigBand Networks (News - Alert) announced that their BigBand BMR will be deployed in the provincial capital and nine cities, and will provide digital television services to millions of subscribers. Currently, more than 250,000 Jiangsu Cable subscribers receive digital television services.

David Heard, BigBand’s chief operating officer, noted that Jiangsu Cable has embarked on one of the most ambitious rollouts of digital television in the world, and said their company is delighted it has selected the BigBand BMR to manage and transport these services. The BigBand BMR has already been deployed by more than 50 customers across China and Heard believes their success at Jiangsu Cable underscores their commitment to the Chinese and other international markets.

Located on the east coast of China, Jiangsu Cable boasts a long-term strategy of providing a suite of on-demand and interactive services, in standard and high-definition, to 15 million subscribers. Aiming to accelerate the pace of its digital migration, Jiangsu Cable is consolidating its existing infrastructures into a single network.

As one of the most widely-deployed, field-proven video networking platforms in the world, the BigBand BMR supports a wide assortment of applications including HDTV, video on-demand, network-based DVR, digital television management, IP video transport and digital simulcast.

BigBand Networks is an innovator in digital video networking. The company recently introduced a new network-based media processing platform to help broadband service providers seamlessly transition from a broadcast video distribution model to personalized video delivery.

The new BigBand Media Services Platform, MSP2000, is currently in trials with service providers worldwide, and is expected to be commercially rolled out in 2009.
