By Calvin Azuri, TMCnet Contributor

Optimum (News - Alert) Voice digital voice-over cable service of Cablevision Systems Corp. has won the top honors in the J.D. Power and Associates 2008 Residential Regional Telephone Customer Satisfaction Study.

This comprehensive study ranks phone providers based on customer satisfaction across a number of product attributes such as performance and reliability, customer service, billing and cost. The study named Optimum Voice the highest ranked residential phone service in the Eastern Region in 2008. Cablevision Systems (News - Alert) Corporation is a media and entertainment company.

“Less than five years after the introduction of Optimum Voice across Cablevision’s service area, our residential phone service has been embraced in more than 37 percent of the homes passed by our fiber-optic network,” Joe Varello, vice president of digital voice product management at Cablevision, said.

“We wanted Optimum Voice to completely redefine expectations for how good, functional and valuable a phone service could be, with unlimited calling and a great array of included features – and without the extra fees and hidden charges consumers had come to expect from the phone company-which makes today’s recognition from a firm as respected as J.D. Power and Associates particularly meaningful.”

In the study, conducted by J.D. Power and Associates in 2007, Optimum Voice received the highest ranking in residential telephone customer satisfaction in the Mid-Atlantic region. Optimum Voice was also named the top voice-over-IP service in PC Magazine’s annual Reader’s Survey for the fourth year in a row.

Optimum Online high-speed Internet customers have access to the Optimum Voice service. This service includes unlimited calling across the U.S., Canada and Puerto Rico.

A superior array of advanced features such as enhanced voicemail, call waiting, caller ID, caller ID blocking, call return, three-way calling and call forwarding, free directory assistance, VIP ringing, Find Me, caller ID on call waiting, busy redial, anonymous calling and anonymous call blocking are also present.

Customers will be able to activate their account features through the “My Optimum Voice” web portal. They will also be able to listen to voicemail messages through any web browser. Optimum Voice also provides a local number portability option so that customers who switch from other telephone companies can keep their existing phone number.
