Inuk and Move Networks Take Internet TV to Next Level

By Anil Sharma, TMCnet Contributor

Inuk Networks, the triple-play service provider, and Move Networks, a major player in Internet television services, have entered into a strategic partnership that aims to revolutionize the Internet television experience for service providers, content owners and consumers.

As part of the agreement, Inuk will integrate Move Networks’ video publishing system, including Move Simulcode and Move Adaptive Stream, to deliver a combined solution using Inuk’s igloo virtual Set-Top Box solution for PCs and Macs.

Inuk will also offer a complete wholesale solution for content owners and platform operators, including the combined technology solution plus hosting, systems integration, billing, play-out, support and CDN services.

Thanks to this, the content owners and platform operators will not only offer an Internet television experience with high-fidelity video images and a near-instantaneous start, but now can add a standalone TV application offering a full Electronic Program Guide (EPG), channel change using keyboard or IR/Bluetooth remote, on-screen overlays and picture in picture features.

“We looked at numerous peer-to-peer and traditional streaming solutions to provide an Internet delivery solution for our igloo PC solution but it’s impossible to replicate a true TV experience if you have buffering every time you channel surf,” said Marcus Liassides, CEO of Inuk Network.

Inuk Networks is a triple-play service provider, which has capitalized on the rapid growth of broadband technologies by developing a platform for the distribution of broadcast quality TV and carrier-class telephony over closed IP-based networks.

Freewire is the company’s branded platform for the delivery of video, voice and data services to consumer customers, with an initial direct focus on the student market.
Inuk’s Freewire platform can be customized and delivered as a wholesale solution, offering broadband providers and network operators the ultimate flexibility in how they provision their TV, voice and converged entertainment service offerings

“Move Networks’ technology changes that and together we are taking Internet television to the next level by merging the best of the traditional and new online television worlds,” added Liassides.

John Edwards, CEO of Move Networks, added, “We enable many of the world’s leading broadcasters with Move Networks’ advanced Internet television streaming services to deliver their content online. Our partnership with Inuk provides a new option in terms of user experience and also creates exciting opportunities with cable, satellite and IPTV (News - Alert) platform operators who want to offer an off-net or multi-room solution to PCs and Macs.”
Move Networks is a provider of online television services that drive the growth and support of online audiences for leading broadcasters and publishers including ABC, the CW, Discovery, ESPN (News - Alert), and Fox.

The video technologies and services developed and managed by Move Networks enable leading brands to deliver live and on-demand programming to millions of people without the buffering, stalling, and low-quality viewing experiences common with competing technologies.
