Industria Offers Zignal Cloud Leveraging Amazon Web Services for IPTV

By Susan J. Campbell, TMCnet Contributing Editor

Industria today announced a new Zignal Cloud service offering that leverages Amazon Web Services, including the Elastic Compute Cloud (Amazon EC2). Using Amazon Web Services, Industria is able to drop the entry barrier of infrastructure costs to IPTV (News - Alert) service providers, making it easier to launch into this exciting and lucrative space.

Such an approach lowers the total cost of ownership as well as ensures the predictability of cost. Zignal Cloud is currently available by invitation only, although service providers can register to be included in the beta program at Industria.com.

"Amazon Web Services provide highly reliable and robust computing and storage infrastructure that can scale to accommodate the demand peaks of mission-critical applications,” said Steve Rabuchin, director of developer eelations for Amazon Web Services, in a Monday statement. "Zignal Cloud users will be supported by the same technology infrastructure that Amazon.com (News - Alert) uses.”

"By leveraging the investment Amazon has made in creating their own Web-scale infrastructure, Industria can offer our customers that same reliability," said Gudjon Mar Gudjonsson, CEO of Industria.

"We feel that this makes the Zignal Cloud service competitive with even the largest telecommunication operators,” added Gudjonsson.

With Zignal Cloud, anyone with access to the required content can become a TV operator, capitalizing on the latest technology and innovation in the IPTV space. With the rise in popularity of sites such as YouTube (News - Alert), the demand for such capabilities is exploding, creating significant opportunities for Zignal Cloud implementation.

New service providers can get started by simply using the Industria Zignal solution with no upfront licensing or investment costs. Consumers can enjoy TV services on a range of devices, from set-top boxes, to mobile devices and PCs.

Through a comprehensive application programming interface (API), Service Providers can interface with Zignal Cloud. It operates the same way as their existing systems and provides an option to further customize and integrate their IPTV offerings.

Service providers' local media assets are conveniently managed within the back office environment of the Zignal Cloud, including their deployed IP video streams and On Demand video assets.

Industria has done well to recognize the opportunities within the marketplace and release a solution that responds to this growing demand in such a way that barriers to entry and overcome and the playing field is made more level. The reliability of Amazon Web services ensures that the client has access to a robust infrastructure that will allow for effective service delivery, even if the beginning scale is small.
