Deutsche Telekom Selects JDSU for 10G Services Support

By Anuradha Shukla, TMCnet Contributor

Deutsche Telekom has selected the JDSU (News - Alert) T-BERD/MTS-6000A Multi-Services Application Module to support the delivery of 10 GigE, SDH, OTN and Fiber channel-based networks.

According to JDSU, operators like Deutsche Telekom (News - Alert) are driven to deploy 10 GigE due to the demand for increased bandwidth services like T-Home and the corresponding strain on networks. The convergence of cost-effective Carrier Ethernet networks and high-bandwidth triple-play services has given rise to the need of testing high-bandwidth services like IPTV (News - Alert) beyond the access network.

The company adds that this convergence is complicated by the development and deployment of a number of new Ethernet technologies and in order to ensure QoS of business and residential triple-play services companies must ensure significant qualification during the design and deployment phase.

Jim Nerschook, vice president and general manager in JDSU’s Communications Test and Measurement business segment expressed his company’s pleasure to win this opportunity to work with Deutsche Telekom and stated that they look forward to long-term 10G services support for them with the T-BERD/MTS (News - Alert)-6000A.

The multi-function capabilities of the T-BERD/MTS-6000A enable a quick return on capital investment, reduce mean time to repair and simplify testing, which ultimately reduce operational expenses.

The T-BERD/MTS-6000A Multi-Services Application Module is the latest innovation for the award-winning, T-BERD/MTS family of test solutions. T-BERD/MTS product lines are popular worldwide due to their cutting-edge design and performance.

JDSU inked a separate deal with Deutsche Telekom earlier this year to support delivery of its IPTV service using the JDSU NetComplete service assurance system and associated IP test probes.

JDSU enables broadband and optical innovation in the communications, commercial and consumer markets.  The company recently released the new 4900 Series pump laser product that provides twice the power, improved efficiency and a package that is 70 percent smaller than previous offerings for deployment in fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) networks.
