Corinex , Synapsis Team to Deploy BPL Infrastructure in Latin America

By Jyothi Shanbhag, TMCnet Contributor

Corinex Communications, a provider of power line and coaxial networking products is now partnering with engineering and technical solutions company Synapsis. The two companies are working to install broadband-over-powerline (BPL) infrastructure in Latin America.

Corinex is providing BPL products that will be used to support connectivity in homes and multiple dwelling units (MDUs), and also for "last mile" links on electric lines for broadband services and utility applications.

“We chose Corinex because it is a market leader and has a vast portfolio of products which will help us bring innovative solutions to our customers,” said Leonardo Covalschi, CEO of Synapsis, in a statement. “Our vast and positive experience with power line technology communication (PLC) technology will enable us to use it as an integral part of our systems integration (SI) solutions."

Corinex Communications said it was included on Deloitte’s (News - Alert) Technology Fast 50 list for Canada, based on its revenue growth during the past five years. The company’s revenue grew 3,595 percent from $1.227 million to $45.410 million between 2003 and 2007.

Corinex’s gateway product combines Gigabit Passive Optical Networks (GPON) with Broadband over Power Line (BPL) technology, empowering telecommunication carriers and power utilities to distribute broadband access networks. Instead of copper pairs, the product uses low voltage power lines to allocate "last mile" Internet access to homes and businesses.

Synapsis specializes in providing engineering and technical solutions for the telecommunications, information systems, telecontrol and environmental industries. The company has offices in Santiago, Chile; Buenos Aires, Argentina; Rio de Janeiro, Brazil; Bogota, Colombia and Lima, Peru. It also has the connections and knowledge resource base to support local utility and power companies with BPL installations.

"We are very excited to work with Synapsis as it is a leader in utility installations for the Latin American market," said Peter Sobotka, CEO of Corinex. "Together, Corinex and Synapsis will provide world-class BPL installations across all of Latin America."
