Integrated Photonics Technology Delivers Ethernet-Based Services to Business Parks

By Tim Gray, TMCnet Web Editor

Integrated Photonics Technology (IPITEK), a designer, developer, manufacturer and supplier of Video-Optimized Intelligent Broadband Networks, says it has added a handul of new features to its MSP-1GE and 10GE product lines designed to provide high quality Ethernet-based services to business park customers. |
The Carlsbad, California-based company has added the features to meet the new standards from Metro Ethernet Forum's (News - Alert) (MEF) 9, 14, and 17, the IEEE 802-3-2005 and International Telecommunications Union (ITU) Y.1731 Operational, Administration and Maintenance (OAM) Suite. These standards address the OAM requirements needed to offer higher-grade service levels, proactive troubleshooting and monitoring for these business customers.

"IPITEK continues to listen to is customers and provide them with the features they need to give superior service while controlling both up-front costs as well as the costs of ownership," said Michael Salour, president and CEO of IPITEK.  "

IPITEK's Carrier Ethernet product line – which includes the MSP-1GE, a customer premise platform; and the MSP-10GE, a powerful Layer 2 aggregation and transport platform –offers an end-to-end network solution for service providers targeting business parks, said Salour.

”We have a long history of serving the cable operators as both technology and service offerings continue to change at a rapid pace, and we are dedicated to developing products that help them meet the challenges of analog and digital video and data over fiber-based networks," said Salour.

The company has been working with its cable MSO customers to bring these MEF-based solutions to the fiber-based higher bandwidth business services typical of office park deployments.

The key new features include:

  • End-to-end Layer 2 monitoring and troubleshooting, using Layer 2 OAM, such as Y.1731, which allows for quick and easy link verification and even fault isolation directly at the Ethernet Layer.
  • Cable TDR measurements between the customer interface and the network interface, enabling service providers to verify and isolate local wiring problems remotely.
  • Single fiber bi-directional optical plug-in diagnostic transceivers that reduce fiber consumption while proactively monitoring power levels of the fiber plant.
  • L2 Tunneling, which helps in transparently extending customers own LAN infrastructure across the WAN by tunneling link protocols normally terminated at the input to the WAN.
  • Per Queue policing, which allows the service provider to sell a rate limited real-time service and an individually rate limited best effort service using a single customer hand-off.
  • Wire-speed loopback of any data port enabling remote verification of customer circuit throughput before deployment or for re-verification during troubleshooting.
These feature are included in IPITEK's MSP-10GE and MSP-1GE Ethernet service units and are available as software and SFP upgrades to units already deployed.
