SK Broadband Selects Symmetricom's DTI Server

By Anshu Shrivastava, TMCnet Contributor

Symmetricom reportedly has announced that Korea-based SK Broadband, a cable broadband service provider, has selected its data over cable service interface specifications timing interface server to felicitate the implementation of 150-megabits-per-second broadband cable services.

The first DTI Compliant Server qualified by CableLabs is Symmetricom’s (News - Alert) TimeCreator 1000 that offers the frequency synchronization critical for delivery of new broadband cable services.

The TimeCreator 1000 DTI Server makes SK Broadband’s network architecture compliant with DOCSIS 3.0 and Modular Cable Modem Termination System. Company officials said that these are key industry standards for next generation cable modem services.

With Symmetricom’s TimeCreator support, SK Broadband is able to increase its offering to 150Mbps. Last year in April 2007, SK Broadband began providing residential users in Korea with 100Mbps broadband services over hybrid fiber-coaxial networks.

“TimeCreator allows us to deploy solutions that provide more bandwidth at a lower cost, and also flexibility for advanced network architectures with greater options,” said Young Il Lee, team leader of broadband network planning in the technology strategy unit at SK Broadband.

Jeremy Bennington, director of business development at Symmetricom, said that TimeCreator allows SK Broadband to deploy new services with the flexibility to balance economics, scalability, and carrier class reliability.

A feature rich DTI Server, TimeCreator has been designed to deliver accurate time and frequency synchronization for cable networks. Additionally, TimeCreator 1000 is a fundamental part of a cable operator’s head-end or hub network deploying M-CMTS and DOCSIS, said officials.

Noting that bringing multiple vendors together to optimize networks requires precise synchronization of the entire network, Bennington said that TimeCreator is a key part of the solution to bring flexibility to the SK Broadband network.

Symmetricom distributor Sys Cable is providing installation of TimeCreator for SK Broadband.

Earlier this month, company announced the integration of V-Factor Q-1200 Headend Analyzer with HP Service Quality Management for Digital TV.
