By Michelle Robart, TMCnet Editor

The third-largest cable provider in the nation, Cox Communications announced on Tuesday the appointment of Leo W. Brennan as the company’s new Chief Operations Officer (COO).

According to Cox (News - Alert) Communications’ President, Patrick J. Esser, Brennan will step into his new role on January 1, 2009.

As COO, Brennan will manage the company's day-to-day operations and make sure the company maintains its competitive edge, further expanding the company's 6.2 million residential and commercial customers. Brennan will also oversee the leadership of Field Operations, Field Services, Customer Care, Marketing, Public Affairs, Cox Business and Cox Media.

Since 2005, Brennan has served as senior vice president and general manager of the Cox Communications' Las Vegas system, where he was responsible for all Las Vegas system operations serving over 430,000 customers.

Before heading up the Las Vegas system, Brennan worked for nearly 15 years as general manager of Cox's Orange County, California system. In this position, he managed the debut of the cable industry's first triple-play bundle of digital video, data and telephony service over a single network platform.

Esser believes that Brennan will play an important role keeping Cox Communications successful in the marketplace.

“A business and industry veteran, Leo brings a unique set of leadership skills, experiences and a successful track-record to this role that we will leverage across the entire company. His passion and extraordinary leadership skills are exactly what we need to help us remain competitive in the marketplace," stated Esser.

As a 35-year veteran of the communications industry, Brennan held leadership roles for Times Mirror Cable Television's Northeast Region in Cheshire, Connecticut, where he managed the operations of eight cable television systems serving over 225,000 households. Brennan also fulfilled the role of vice president of sales and marketing at Coaxial Communications in Columbus, Ohio, a cable system serving over 55,000 customers.

In addition, Brennan is widely known throughout the communications industry and has been recognized on numerous occasions for his achievements. He received the Vanguard Award for Cable Operations Management by The National Cable and Telecommunications Association.

Today, he is president of the Board of Directors of the Nevada State Cable Telecommunications Association and has held leadership positions as president or a board member in the California Cable Television Association, Southern California Cable and Telecommunications Association, and South Orange County Chamber of Commerce.

He is also currently a member of the Board of Directors for the YMCA of Southern Nevada, and works as a Trustee and member of the Executive Committee for the Las Vegas Chamber of Commerce.

Born in New York, Brennan attended The Ohio State University where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration.

Cox Communications is a multi-service broadband communications and entertainment company with more than 6.2 million total residential and commercial customers. The third-largest cable television company in the United States, Cox offers a variety of advanced digital video, high-speed Internet and telephony services over its own nationwide IP network, as well as integrated wireless services. The company also wholly owns and operates the Travel Channel.
