RCN Signs Deal to Provide Digital Cable TV and High-Definition (HDTV) Services in Conard Hotel

RCN Corporation, a provider of all-digital television, high capacity data, and voice services to residential, business customers and service providers, has signed a multi-year agreement with Conrad Hotel in Chicago to provide digital cable TV and high-definition (HDTV) Services in guest rooms.
 
Under the terms of the deal, guests at the hotel will have access to RCN’s (News - Alert) all-Digital Cable TV and High-Definition (HDTV) service on 42 inch flat screen plasma televisions in 311 rooms.
 
 “The Conrad Chicago is in a prestigious location in the heart of Chicago’s Magnificent Mile shopping district and is walking distance to some of our most famous attractions,” said Russell Menkes, general manager, Conrad Chicago, in a statement.
 
“Couple our location with luxurious, new spacious guest rooms, blazing high-speed Internet access and high tech guest features, including RCN’s in-room Digital and High-Definition television, and you have a winning combination for our guests. Best of all, RCN came to the table with a proposal and plan that demonstrated their ability to meet our brand and financial requirements, as well as the needs of DiamondRock Hospitality, the property owner.”
 
Providing details about the company’s Business Services Premiere Hotel Lineup, RCN Corporation’s (News - Alert) officials said that it delivers more than one hundred channels of video and audio programming to include a selection of all-digital music channels. The line up will integrate seamlessly with the Conrad Chicago’s other third party hotel technology service providers and integrators.
 
“The Conrad Hotel deployment is yet another example of how easy it is for our teams to efficiently deploy a superior advanced solution,” said Tom McKay, senior vice president, technical operations and general manager, RCN Chicago.
 
“The fiber-based network is our own, so we maintain ultimate flexibility.”

PK Ramani, RCN Business Services president claimed that the Conrad Hotel is a fine example of a prestigious hotel seeking a solution that is often considered difficult and costly for the competition to provide. 
He said that the company prefers to take the time required to understand the client’s needs, setting realistic expectations and working to scope and deliver a sensible, working solution.
