Various Clients Chose Occam Networks' BLC 6000 Platform

By Raju Shanbhag, TMCnet Contributor

Occam Networks has announced that the company’s BLC 6000 platform have been chosen by three telecommunications service providers as the platform offers high levels of flexibility in mixed copper and fiber access networks.

The BLC 6000 includes BLC 6001 Stackable Chassis and BLC 6012 High Capacity Chassis. Occam claims that both these products offer flexible deployment configurations for the BLC 6000 Broadband Loop Carrier system. They also deliver the major benefits of the BLC 6000's unique Intelligent Blade Interconnect Architecture.

One of Occam’s clients, Brooke Telecom recently introduced IPTV (News - Alert) to its service mix. The installation includes Occam’s POTS, ADSL2Plus, and 10-Gigabit Ethernet Aggregation blades, as well as their optical network terminals (ONTs) and high-density chassis. Hill Country, another client of Occam has deployed Occam’s GigE FTTP OLTs and ONTs to continue their FTTH upgrade. When complete, the company will provide IPTV, VoIP and video, apart from its existing POTS and DSL services.

“The transition to FTTP is simplified with Occam’s integration of 10-Gigabit Ethernet transport and a highly intelligent MSAP architecture that eliminates forklift upgrades when migrating from POTS and DSL,” said Juan Vela (News - Alert), Director, Solutions Marketing and Strategy.

“Occam Networks’ access equipment provides the flexibility and cost effectiveness to meet subscribers’ needs today as well as the performance to meet high-bandwidth and low latency needs in the future,” Vela continued.

Another client of Occam, Warwick Valley Telephone was looking to upgrade its copper network to cater to the subscriber demand for IPTV. The company used Occam’s POTS and ADSL2Plus blades, which enabled them to offer HD services to several places to which they didn’t think there would be adequate bandwidth.

Recently, the company has been awarded INTERNET TELEPHONY Magazine’s 2008 Product of the Year. The award-winning BLC 6012i High Capacity Chassis is equipped with blade self discovery and automatic network configurations upon blade insertion. It incorporates various design advancements that provide a new level of intelligence, integration and simplicity for service providers.
