Teleclub Selects NDS VideoGuard Conditional Access Technology

By Anil Sharma, TMCnet Contributor

Teleclub, a premium pay-TV operator in Switzerland, has selected NDS VideoGuard conditional access (CA (News - Alert)) technology to secure its programming broadcast on its digital cable networks nationwide.

NDS (News - Alert) officials said that Teleclub is expected to benefit from the robust security provided by the company’s CA and DRM (Digital Rights Management) technology, currently protecting content service revenues exceeding $40 billion for pay-TV operators of all sizes around the globe.

Officials claimed that VideoGuard is the best-in-class CA technology with an unsurpassed track record in securing digital content, protecting digital pay-TV networks from the threat of piracy.

Yves Padrines, vice president, business development at NDS and general manager NDS GmbH, said, “We are more than proud to announce that Teleclub, one of Europe’s true pay-TV pioneers, having started operations back in 1982, has chosen to entrust VideoGuard CA to secure its premium pay-TV programming and protect its service revenues.”

Padrines said that this represents the first customer to win in Switzerland and brings the aggregated total of new CA agreements for major pay-TV platforms in German-speaking territories to six.

“We look forward to supporting Teleclub in its upcoming initiatives to deliver to subscribers the pay-TV services they want.”

NDS Group Ltd. creates the technologies and applications that enable pay-TV operators to securely deliver digital content to TV STBs (set-top boxes), DVRs (digital video recorders), PCs, mobiles and other multimedia devices.

NDS and Teleclub in coming weeks would start implementation of VideoGuard technology to secure the digital cable distribution of Teleclub’s programming services.

“Securing digital content with NDS VideoGuard is both highly efficient and effective. That’s why Teleclub decided to select NDS and entrust a fundamental part of our business to VideoGuard. We look forward to working with NDS as our new technology partner,” said Dr Wilfried Heinzelmann, member of the board of Teleclub, in a statement.

The company officials said that VideoGuard’s implementation on the Teleclub platform will have no impact on delivery of services to subscribers thanks to an innovative Simulcrypt solution from NDS.
