Alloptic Announces DOCSIS Enabled PON

By Anuradha Shukla, TMCnet Contributor

Alloptic has announced the availability of its DPC software, Alloptic’s (News - Alert) DOCSIS PON Controller which enables DOCSIS provisioning and control of its EPON system.

Alloptic is a developer of RF over glass (RFoG) and passive optical networking (PON) solutions for CATV, telecom, and private network operators worldwide. Alloptic’s DPC software facilitates the acceleration of PON rollouts by MSOs and others using DOCSIS for service delivery.

Dave Emberley, research manager, Telecommunications Equipment at IDC (News - Alert) appreciates DPC for solving a number of problems for cable operators. He finds the biggest benefit of DPC is its ability to allow cable operators to address a broader set of business needs for enhanced Ethernet and TDM services while continuing to use their OSS and billings systems.

“Alloptic’s DPC is an important step in the evolution of deep fiber strategies toward advanced business services.”

Shane Eleniak, vice president of Marketing and Business Development for Alloptic recognizes the importance of leveraging the existing investment for the success of network operators. He explained that as Alloptic’s systems drop into the access network alongside other technologies including RFoG, it makes the transition to PON-based architectures possible at a fast pace and bigger scale. This provides several benefits for the service provider.

By working together with Alloptic’s other products, DPC allows increased operational efficiencies, bandwidth gains and the ability to offer advanced services to residential and business customers without requiring major overhauls or replacement of OSS components.

Matt Hoskins, network operations manager, NPG Cable of Saint Joseph, Missouri is a cable operator who has been involved in early trials of the system. He appreciates the Alloptic’s DPC system and is especially impressed with the ease and simplicity of flow-through provisioning achieved by it.

“As we increase PON deployments, DOCSIS management of those networks not only expands our service offering; it improves our service delivery times.”
