TransAtlantic Cable Provider Hibernia Expands Network Footprint in Europe

By Anuradha Shukla, TMCnet Contributor

Hibernia Atlantic has hired new team members throughout Amsterdam, London and Paris. The company has reportedly expanded its sales force in response to its continued growth in the European marketplace, with additional transAtlantic capacity and terrestrial network infrastructure.

Hibernia Atlantic (News - Alert) is privately held, diverse transAtlantic submarine cable transport provider. It offers more than 70 redundant network points of presence throughout Canada, the U.S., U.K. and mainland Europe on more than 24,000 kilometers of network.

The transAtlantic submarine transport cable provider has also appointed industry veteran Fergus Innes as vice president of sales, Europe. In his new role, Innes will lead a team focused on driving Hibernia Atlantic’s cable transport services into the business, government and wholesale sectors throughout all of Europe.

Eric Gutshall, executive vice president of sales and marketing for Hibernia, said that its transAtlantic fiber optic cable recently touched the shores of Northern Ireland. The company takes pride in their new physical infrastructure and capacity to penetrate European and global commerce.

Hibernia has also pinned hopes on Fergus and other talented team members who collectively bring extensive regional telecommunications experience as it continues to grow throughout Europe.

Fergus has spent eight years at COLT (News - Alert) Telecom, and most recently served as COLT’s sales director in its Irish Major Enterprise Division. He has also held senior executive positions in the U.K. at Cable & Wireless (News - Alert), Telia and Thus.

“Hibernia is an innovative and dynamic organization that understands exactly what is important to our customers,” Innes said in a statement.

Innes said the speed and resiliency of the firm’s 24,000km fiber optic cable system to be the key network differentiators and informed that Hibernia is continually increasing their global footprint. The company has added new points of presence to address the demand of their enterprise and carrier clients.

“It is an exciting time to be part of the Hibernia team, and I look forward to delivering leading edge solutions to our rapidly increasing customer base throughout Europe,” he said.
