China Telecom Americas, a provider of integrated communications solutions to multi-national companies and carriers in Asia and America, announced the launch of first terrestrial broadband cable transmission system between China and India, co-built by China Telecom (News - Alert) and Reliance.

With an initial capacity of 20G, the cable system is connected through Tibet to India. The terrestrial cable carries DWDM and SDH transmission. The total cable capacity design is 4.8 Terabits, which is stated to be more compared to the existing bandwidth between China and India.

"The launch of the China-India Cable System will change the communications status quo of connecting via international marine cable systems between China and India," said Donald Tan, president of China Telecom Americas.

"By providing the direct connection between the two largest developing nations in the world, it will promote the growth of political, cultural and business relationships between China and India and the other South Asian countries, contributing to increased prosperity in the region. It also contributes to the implementation of 'The Five Year Plan for Full Economic and Trade Cooperation' between China and India," said Tan.

As an international telecom provider, China Telecom Americas has been offering Data, IP and Voice Wholesale services. In order to develop its overseas business, China Telecom has increased the capacity of its global communications network reaching many regions, including North America, Asia and Europe, and these communication networks are now carried over both marine and terrestrial cable systems, increasing network reliability.

The company’s expanded reach and the transmission of data over large capacity networks with multiple routes are said to be offering major benefits to all large business centers globally.

China Telecom Corporation Limited is a full services integrated operator and reputed wireline telecommunications and broadband services provider, providing telecommunications and information services including wireline voice, mobile voice, data, video and multimedia in the PRC.
