Phyworks Named U.K.'s 5th Fastest Growing Tech Company

By Carolyn J Dawson, TMCnet Contributor

Phyworks, a supplier of communications integrated circuiting solutions, was recently listed as the 5th fastest growing technology company in the U.K. by the Sunday Times Newspaper.

The company is the sole semiconductor business to feature in the Sunday Times Microsoft (News - Alert) Tech Track 100 2009 and also one among four South West England businesses which figure in the study.

During the preceding three financial years, Phyworks sales went up by almost 168 percent - a significant percentage of this increase was due to exports; most of these exports were to the U.S. and China.

Phyworks’ integrated circuits deliver improved performance, energy optimization, smaller size and a cost effective vehicle for high speed optical fiber and copper communication systems which are used in data communications and storage and telecommunications. The company completed its successful 20 millionth shipment in July this year.

CEO of Phyworks, Stephen King, commented on receiving the prestigious accolade from the Sunday Times, “We have world-class engineering here in Bristol and our team has developed transceiver and equalizer technology for high-speed networks that greatly improves their performance. Our growth is founded upon engineering excellence and a global perspective when it comes to marketing. The U.K. is a technology leader in communications and we're proud to be recognized as contributing to that position."

Microsoft has also expressed their happiness at being able to be a part of the Tech Track initiative by being the title sponsor. They also lauded the privately owned technological companies for providing a positive growth momentum and thereby making a positive contribution to the entire technology industry. This was significant especially in the wake of the recent economic slowdown.

The Sunday Times Microsoft Tech Track 100 has been put together by research analysts from the Oxford University and networking events company Fast Track.
