ATMC Selects Motorola's GPON Solution

By Anil Sharma, TMCnet Contributor

Atlantic Telephone Membership Cooperative, or “ATMC,” has selected Motorola’s gigabit passive optical network, or “GPON,” system for deployment in its fiber-to-the-home, or “FTTH,” network.

Thanks to the Motorola’s (News - Alert) system, ATMC would be able to offer subscribers video entertainment and broadband services as it expands fiber deployments across greater Brunswick County, a resort area of North Carolina.

ATMC is a non-profit cooperative providing local telephone service as well as a wide variety of additional services, including cable TV, high-speed Internet, wireless, business communications and security.

Motorola officials said that the GPON technology will provide ATMC with increased spectrum utilizing 1 GHz-based RF overlay technology, SCTE-55-1 RF return path and integrated return path demodulation.

The addition of Motorola’s GPON access network is expected to expand ATMC’s installed base of Motorola Broadband Passive Optical Network FTTH network connectivity to its subscribers.

"In selecting our FTTH network solution, we looked for a partner with extensive GPON experience and a track record of innovation,” Allen Russ, CEO and general manager, ATMC, said.

Russ said the company supports a mix of RF video delivery over cable TV, BPON and now GPON networks.

He said that Motorola has made the deployment of residential and business services over these different networks as simple and as economical as possible – all while protecting existing investments in the RF video infrastructure and back office operations.

“Motorola is proud to announce this important and continued relationship with ATMC,” Joe Cozzolino, senior vice president and general manager, Access Networks Solutions, Motorola Home & Networks Mobility, said.

Additionally, Cozzolino said that Motorola’s scale and deployment history with larger operators is delivering benefits to all of the company’s FTTH customers, regardless of size.

“ATMC’s selection of our GPON and 1GHz optical network terminal (ONT) technology speaks directly to our ability to provide innovative FTTH solutions that are reliable, cost effective and simple to deploy,” he added.

Recently, TMCnet reported that Motorola ‘s Enterprise Mobility Solutions business has reportedly initiated a series of road shows to connect its channel partner ecosystem in North America.

According to Motorola officials, the events will showcase how Motorola's comprehensive portfolio of end-to-end solutions combined with its partner ecosystem provide customers across enterprise, public safety and government markets with better information to drive better results.

Company officials said that for the first time, channel partners across Motorola's EMS business will meet to discuss key issues, including information security, asset tracking and workforce mobility - facing customers from a variety of verticals.
