BigBand Helps Cable Operators to Leverage Switched Digital Video Architecture

By Nathesh, TMCnet Contributor

BigBand Networks, a provider of network solutions designed to make it easier to move, manage and monetize video, has enhanced its “Switched Video Analysis” to make it easier for cable operators to further leverage “Switched Digital Video” architectures and the company’s newly released “Converged Video Exchange” video software control plane.

BigBand said that its SVA platform is a comprehensive viewership and performance analysis tool for switched digital video and broadcast video applications. The BigBand SVA provides operators with the tools needed to significantly reduce cost, enhance performance and explore new revenue opportunities during all stages of switched digital video deployments, according to the company.

A new software upgrade into the platform helps MSOs to optimize SDV assets and HFC spectrum and to maximize programming availability.

Service providers are using the SVA software to track success rates for tune in requests on SDV channels, to plan service group and node splits, and to optimize SDV channels line-ups in order to maximize the number of programs that can be carried in the spectrum (oversubscription) without blocking events. With their ability to execute billions of real-time transactions BigBand solutions can retrieve valuable info for network planning and increase the relevancy of the overall subscriber experience.

John Holobinko, vice president of marketing of BigBand Networks (News - Alert), stated that the company continues to see tremendous growth for switched digital video and its benefits to operators extend far beyond bandwidth reclamation. SDV as a platform can assist operators in providing a myriad of special programming and in acting as an engine for lower cost delivery of valuable applications. SVA provides insight into the behavior of the entire HFC network, which was difficult or impossible to obtain without SDV. They will continue to help operators improve the delivery path and leverage additional value from their networks by releasing newer innovations and enhancements.

The new SVA capabilities optimize all phases of SDV deployments, from pre-deployment network planning to post-deployment performance measurement.

BigBand recently took IP video delivery to the next level and chose NaviSite (News - Alert) to manage Hyperion applications.
