Verizon Awarded Torch Award by Council of Better Business Bureaus

Verizon (News - Alert) was recently awarded the prestigious Torch Award for Marketplace Excellence by the Council of Better Business Bureau (BBB). This is the 13th edition of the award and it is principally used to recognize those businesses that work to create long term relationships in the marketplace and execute sound business practices.

Verizon is among the few communications solutions providers to have been awarded the Torch Award. The award was announced on Nov. 16 and honors the company’s strategy to enhance customer satisfaction in all business units, including Verizon Wireless which caters to over 89 million subscribers internationally.

In a release, Steve Cox (News - Alert), president and CEO of the Council of Better Business Bureaus, said “Verizon's business model is based on core values -- integrity, respect, performance excellence and accountability -- that guide every aspect of its operation. Verizon's investments in broadband and wireless technologies are providing a platform for economic growth across America as well as new ways to address big social issues like health care and the environment."

Verizon has more than 100 million subscribers across the globe and, according to the release, has placed a lot of emphasis on ensuring that they all have a superior user experience by focusing on the fundamentals. These included ensuring integrity in operations, respecting customers, improving customers’ experiences on a daily basis and also accepting responsibility for their actions in the marketplace. The company is also enabling development across its networks to satisfy goals like creating more employment opportunities, improving education and health care delivery and reducing its carbon footprint by optimizing energy usage.

Marketplace excellence is achieved by Verizon with a team of dedicated, aware and motivated personnel of more than 230,000. Verizon has spent more than $1 billion for increasing employee awareness, training and development over the last few years. Its past and present employees have pledged more than 3 million hours of community service since 2000. Verizon has matched employee donations and raised a total of $26 million for charity. Verizon has also undertaken initiatives to benefit people with disabilities. It adopted a portfolio of Universal Design Principles in the late 80’s which has since spawned several products and services.

Verizon’s broadband and wireless technology offerings are increasing its relevance in delivering smart logistics, smart buildings and a nation-wide smart power grid. By making its network equipment purchases at least 20 percent more energy efficient it has also served as a path breaker for the telecommunications segment.

Verizon was named the most trusted communications company for privacy earlier this year by two independent privacy security firms. It was also ranked no. 2 on the Ponemon Institute and TRUSTe promoted Most Trusted Companies for Privacy list. Verizon also was the first US telecommunications company to make it to the Dow Jones Sustainability North America Index.
