OKI Unveils the Clean Eye Camera Link Cable

By Shamila Janakiraman, TMCnet Contributor

OKI Electric Cable has announced the launch of the “Clean Eye Camera Link Cable,” expected to be available commercially next year.

According to officials with OKI (News - Alert), a combination of the company’s low skew cable technology along with new low power consumption equalizing technology allow the offering to provide up to 20m data transmission at 85MHz. This distance is twice that specified in Camera Link interface standard.

Also, visual inspection methods have been replaced by automated optical inspection or AOI which employs high-end digital cameras that have high data volumes and greater transmission speeds.

Conventional LCD panel inspections with cameras can be covered by a 10m cable according to the specifications for the Camera Link interface standard. However, due to an increase in size of LCDs there is a necessity for 10m long cables.

If conventional cables are used to transmit high-speed data across distances more than 10m, the eye pattern will be ‘crushed’ leading to transmission errors.

To eliminate this problem a repeater unit is placed in between the two cables - extending the transmission distance by connecting the 10m length cables.

“OKI Electric Cable will continue in the future to develop and provide high-end products, over and above industrial standard, to the worldwide market,” said Takashi Hattori, president of OKI Electric Cable.

“We believe our Clean Eye Camera Link Cable is fulfilling an important industry need for innovative solutions that deliver high-quality inspection capabilities, capable of providing long-distance transmission at high speeds and low levels of power consumption.”
