NDS Appoints Surbhi Broadband as Reseller for Digital Cable Solutions in India

By Anil Sharma, TMCnet Contributor

Surbhi Broadband – an India-based cable TV equipment manufacturer and supplier -- has been appointed as an authorized reseller for NDS’ pay-TV solutions in India, including the market-leading NDS (News - Alert) VideoGuard conditional access system.

NDS officials said that the partnership will allow the company and its customers to take advantage of Surbhi’s in-depth understanding of the Indian cable and broadband markets and its local expertise in hardware and software systems integration.

As part of the pact, Surbhi will promote and sell NDS’ market leading VideoGuard CA (News - Alert), MediaHighway set-top box software and “Electronic Programme Guides” in India. Surbhi will manage the headend integration for customers and supply NDS smartcards.

According to the company officials, Surbhi Broadband and NDS will work together to provide a one-stop shop for cable operators planning to go digital.

“NDS is India’s leading digital pay-TV technology solutions provider and with this partnership we aim to offer solutions that are affordable, scalable and highly relevant to small and medium-sized cable operators in India”, said Piyush Mishra, general manager - sales, Surbhi Broadband, in a statement.

Mishra opined that the company’s collaboration with NDS and the availability of cost-effective solutions will help promote the growth of the Indian digital cable TV market.

“With Surbhi Broadband and NDS, operators will get access to reliable, market-leading hardware and software solutions for digital cable TV platforms and services all under one roof,” said Sue Taylor, senior vice president and general manager NDS Asia Pacific.

Taylor said this will help the customers as it means that digital TV deployment becomes easier and more cost-effective.

NDS Group Ltd. says that it creates the technologies and applications that enable pay-TV operators to securely deliver digital content to TV STBs (set-top boxes), DVRs (digital video recorders), PCs, mobiles and other multimedia devices.

In November NDS had announced that MYtv selected professional services and an end-to-end solution from NDS for its hybrid satellite direct-to-home (DTH) pay-TV platform.

MYtv is the new satellite-based television service in Ukraine.
