R Selects Jungo Middleware for Cable and DSL Gateways

By Anamika Singh, TMCnet Contributor

Jungo Ltd., an NDS (News - Alert) Group company and a provider of software solutions for residential gateways, has announced that R, a Spanish quad-play cable operator, has selected Jungo's (News - Alert) suite of broadband software solutions to support its residential and home office customers.

Jungo's broadband software solutions will streamline the R platform. With Jungo OpenRG residential gateway middleware providing uniform software across their entire installed base, including on both their cable DOCSIS 3.0 and DSL gateways, R will be able to deliver an enhanced broadband experience to customers and reduce the time to market for new, advanced services.

OpenRG is middleware for residential gateways, in the CPE. This middleware includes drivers, an operating system, protocols and advanced networking and security applications to enable all broadband services in the home.

OpenRG's hardware-agnostic design allows quick and cost-effective porting to new CPE platforms, enabling service providers to offer the latest technologies and services with the quickest time to market.

Jungo's SCR , Support Cost Reduction solution, will enable R to reduce the frequency and length of customer support calls whilst substantially improving the customer's experience. Also, R will introduce JRMS, Jungo's remote management system, which includes a comprehensive set of back office tools that help manage gateways, associated broadband services and network devices for remote control and configuration of deployed gateway to provide quick and effective online support, troubleshooting and easy management of customer accounts.

The Support Cost Reduction or SCR solution provides clear troubleshooting guidance to subscribers when action is needed, and equipping support personnel with a range of tools to quickly identify and resolve problems remotely. The SCR solution is comprises an SCR client residing on the gateway, supported by server-side software through which new support scenarios and updates may be added without changing the gateway middleware.

R have chosen to implement Jungo's NationZone to dynamically transform excess bandwidth available in the home gateways across its installed base into a secure, unified Wi-Fi hotspot network without degrading the user experience in the home.

"When we made the decision to provide our customers with next-generation gateways, we realized that choosing one robust, hardware-agnostic middleware solution that supports all gateways, regardless of CPE hardware, would be a smart move. Jungo's solution does just that and will enable us to offer new services quickly and easily, while keeping development and ongoing support costs to a minimum," explains Arturo Dopico, CEO, R.

"As an innovative service provider, R sees the business benefits that can be achieved by deploying the right software solution, both in the gateway and the head-end," stated Eran Rom, CEO, Jungo. "We believe that Jungo's solution will help R maintain its competitive edge in the Spanish market."
