Intercon 1 introduces High-Flex Right Angle Gigabit Ethernet Cable Assemblies

By Calvin Azuri, TMCnet Contributor

High-Flex Right Angle Gigabit Ethernet Cable Assemblies for GigE and GigE Vision cameras have been introduced by the Intercon 1 division of Nortech Systems (News - Alert) Inc.

The Baxter, Minn.-based, Intercon 1 division of Nortech Systems supplies and manufactures industrial-rugged Machine Vision digital and analog video cable and cable assemblies.

The division also specializes in custom solutions and quick turnaround. Nortech System headquartered at Wayzata, Minn., is a full-service electronics manufacturing services also known as EMS provider of wire and cable assemblies, printed circuit board assemblies, and higher-level complete box build assemblies for a wide range of industries. The markets served by Nortech include industrial equipment, aerospace or defense and medical.

GigE Vision is a camera interface standard hosted by the Automated Imaging Association. This camera interface is developed using the Gigabit Ethernet communication protocol. Fast transfers of 1000 Mbps of data using standard low cost cables over long lengths of up to 100 meters is possible with GigE. Users are given increased data transfer speeds and cable lengths compared to FireWire Industrial Cameras by an industrial GigE camera.

These assemblies are built to customer specifications for length and connector orientation either right/ left or up/down and straight; this is not similar to the off-the-shelf options currently available. Due to the low profile of the assemblies and the customization, it helps in minimizing the increasingly tight space requirements.

An overmolded strain relief and thumbscrew-locking connectors for greater data integrity and performance, even through motion and vibration is included in the industrial-rugged assembly design. 12 million cycles in both tick-tock and rolling torsion testing have been exceeded by Intercon 1's high-flex cable. EMI interference and cross-talk are minimized due to the double-shielded cable. Environmental conditions like moisture, oil and abrasion are resisted with the help of its durable Thermal Plastic Elastomer also known as TPE jackets.

A firm, constant connection through motion and vibration is guaranteed by the thumbscrews. Additional strain relief and extended product life is provided with the help of Intercon 1's exclusive over-mold design. Individual requirements or unique applications can be made provided with custom assemblies.
