NetLogic Microsystems Announces Support for RMI's Superscalar Multi-core XLP® Processor Family

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. --(Business Wire)-- NetLogic Microsystems, Inc. (NASDAQ:NETL), the leader in the design and development of knowledge-based processors and high-speed integrated circuits, today announced support for the XLP® Processor family, the latest multi-core processor family from RMI Corporation (RMI), a leading provider of high-performance processors for communication and media rich applications. The XLP Processor family integrates a superscalar processor core that operates at over 2.0GHz and offers a 3x performance-per-watt improvement over previous generation cores to deliver higher levels of system performance and scalability for networking, communications, data center, 3G/4G mobile wireless, security and storage applications.

NetLogic Microsystems and RMI will cooperate to develop reference designs that include the new XLP Processors along with industry-leading knowledge-based processors, NETL7™ Layer 7 knowledge-based processors and 10-Gigabit Ethernet PHY products from NetLogic Microsystems. The collaboration will help customers accelerate time-to-market and reduce development costs for advanced, next-generation systems, such as switches, routers, 3G/4G mobile infrastructure equipment, security appliances, storage appliances and gateways.

NetLogic Microsystems' industry-leading knowledge-based processors accelerate high-speed packet header inspection and application-aware processing functions to deliver best-in-class performance on next-generation networking, access, data center and security applications. NetLogic Microsystems' Layers 2-4 knowledge-based processors accelerate header inspection and IPv6 processing functions to enable wire-speed quality-of-service (QoS), ACL security, video/voice forwarding, billing and VPN while maximizing the energy efficiency of the overall system. The NETL7™ family of Layer 7 knowledge-based processors from NetLogic Microsystems delivers unprecedented, deterministic performance while inspecting every bit of every packet at wire-speed to enable application-aware and cyber security functions.

"We are excited to expand upon our existing collaboration with RMI by supporting the next-generation XLP Processor," said Chris O'Reilly, vice president of marketing at NetLogic Microsystems. "By ensuring interoperability between our respective product lines, we will reduce our customers' time-to-market while still enabling flexible, high-performance, and feature-rich platforms." "Having NetLogic Microsystems' support for our next generation XLP Processor family is important as we extend our robust partnership creating value for our joint customers," said Steve Longoria, vice president of sales and marketing, RMI. "We look forward to expanding our success in the networking, security and storage arena with the powerful combination of NETL7 Layer 7 knowledge-based processors and our Multi-threaded processors, which will deliver system-level differentiation to our customers." Reference designs incorporating RMI Corporation processors and NetLogic Microsystems' NETL7 Layer 7 knowledge-based processors will be on exhibit at Interop 2009 in Booth #2412.
