Alfresco Simplifies Legacy and Proprietary ECM Replacement with Packaged Migration Services

LONDON --(Business Wire)--

In response to increasing customer demand, open source enterprise content management (ECM) leader Alfresco today announced the availability of Alfresco Migration Services to simplify content migration from costly legacy and proprietary solutions to Alfresco ECM. The packaged solution will enable organizations to decrease their ECM costs in an increasingly commoditized market. While Alfresco Migration Services will be made available for a variety of legacy and proprietary ECM solutions, the services will initially be offered for organizations seeking to migrate from EMC (News - Alert) Documentum and Microsoft SharePoint to Alfresco Enterprise.

Companies of all sizes are facing content chaos. Unstructured data is scattered across a range of different applications and locations. Businesses are also under pressure to cut IT budgets and reduce maintenance fees on proprietary software. In addition to open source architecture and platform benefits, Alfresco's low cost subscription model enables organizations to achieve significant costs savings while maintaining "business as usual" with their content services. As a CMIS compliant repository, enterprises migrating to Alfresco benefit from CMIS accessibility to content and avoid vendor lock-in.

Alfresco Migration Services have been developed by EntropySoft, leading specialist in the Data Integration market. EntropySoft offers first scalable and fully-flexible ETL (Extraction, Transform and Load) products for unstructured data and is the premier enterprise systems connector supplier for six software vendors present in Gartner's (News - Alert) September 2009 Information Access Magic Quadrant.

Alfresco Migration ervices can handle all the content transfers that are required in today's complex information systems. This ensures that all content, security and critical metadata (permissions, users, etc.) are transferred safely. The content transfers can be on-demand or time-scheduled and can be done either on-premise or with a cloud repository.

Alfresco Migration Services will be delivered by experienced ECM systems integrators. Alfresco has appointed the following specialist migration partners who will be offering free-of-charge workshops to discuss and scope the migration to Alfresco:

  • Australia/New Zealand - Seed
  • France - 1genia
  • USA & Germany - Westernacher
  • Middle East/South Asia/North Africa - Wasaaiq
  • Spain - Evoltia
  • UK - Ixxus

"Organizations often have a variety of ECM applications managing content for different departments and business processes. At a time of content proliferation, CIOs are looking for ways to minimize total cost of ownership (TCO) in this area of IT spend and find more efficient ways to manage content," said John Powell, CEO of Alfresco Software. "As a result, we've developed Migration Services in response to increasing customer demand for assistance with content migration projects, to simplify the process for organizations who want to switch from legacy and proprietary ECM solutions to Alfresco Enterprise."
