Wazco Selects Interphase LTE Module for New Multi-Sector MetroStorm™ MetroCells

PLANO, Texas --(Business Wire)--

Interphase (News - Alert) Corporation (NASDAQ: INPH), a leading global provider of solutions for converged communications networks, today announced that its iSPAN® 36701 4G Wireless Base Station AdvancedMC™ has been selected by Wazco for its LTE (News - Alert) MetroStorm™ and MetroStorm Cluster™, the industry's first Multi-Sector small-cell base station family for LTE Network Operators. The MetroStorm hosts up to four coordinated sectors within a single self-contained fully-integrated enclosure, powered via standard interfaces available on street lights, power poles or other similar devices.

"We are pleased to provide the highly customizable Interphase iSPAN® 36701 baseband module as the core of the Wazco MetroStorm. This powerful LTE module enables rapid development thru streamlined integration," said Greg Kalush, President and CEO of Interphase. "Built on the award-winning Mindspeed® Transcede™ baseband processor, with field-proven pre-integrated protocol stack software, the Interphase platform is a perfect match for Wazco's aggressive deployment timeline and need for traffic handling efficiency, lower power requirements, and compact size."

"Wazco's groundbreaking LTE MetroStorm provides everything needed to quicklydeliver a first-of-its-kind, high-performance, well-differentiated small-cell base station to the LTE mobile-infrastructure market," said Mike Nasco, CEO and Co-founder of Wazco. "It provides a truly innovative, self-contained, self-organizing, self-optimizing, street-level network element with more coverage, bandwidth, throughput, and user density per base station than other small-cell designs."

The MetroStorm's highly-innovative, 700 MHz LTE MetroStorm Antenna Array architecture incorporates hardware from the DataSoft Corporation RF transceiver portfolio of tunable RF filters, Software Defined Radio (SDR) and Cognitive Radio (CR) technologies for the critical RF front-end. The power amplifiers for each sector are integrated into the active antenna array, reducing the hardware typically required to handle MIMO, beam-forming and other antenna techniques, and contributing to cost and size advantages of the MetroStorm.

The MetroStorm Cluster gets its advanced dynamic real-time intra-sector/intra-base station RAN intelligence from AirHop (News - Alert) Communication's eSON™ technology, which enables the active mitigation of the types of real-world operating issues that typically hamper unplanned small cells in field deployments. Wazco's eSON-powered MetroCells are collaterally deployment-friendly, OpEx-friendly, and designed to minimize operator churn.
