Vodafone Showcases 4K Capability With Cisco at IFA 2014; Germany's first 4K, Ultra HD set-top box to be available to subscribers in 2015

(M2 PressWIRE Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Berlin, Germany -- IFA -- -- Cisco today announced that it is collaborating with Vodafone Germany to develop Germany's first 4K capable set-top box, to be demonstrated at IFA 2014 in Berlin.

The 4K, Ultra HD next-generation offering will be available to subscribers within the first half of 2015 and will be the basis for all TV receivers available from Vodafone in the future.

The Cisco Videoscape(TM) MediaHighway  (TM)  set-top box software will provide the operating system for the new 4K-capable hybrid set-top box, enabling the processing of Ultra HD content delivered over any mechanism. Videoscape VideoGuard    Conditional Access (CA) will secure the delivery of content on the platform.

Yves Padrines, Vice President, Service Provider Video, Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Russia, Cisco, commented: "The adoption of 4K has been a point of discussion in the industry for a number of years, and we are delighted to be working with Vodafone to move it from a theoretical discussion to reality whilst enabling their subscribers to benefit from even greater quality viewing. This deployment marks yet another first for Vodafone in Germany, who remain at the forefront of IPTV innovation." Launched in 2010 as an industry first, Vodafone Germany's hybrid television service combines satellite, cable, IPTV and over-the-top (OTT) programming on one box. On launch, the service was supported by systems integration and software from Cisco.
