ONE World Sports Partners With NBC Sports To Air 2016 IIHF World Ice Hockey Championships

STAMFORD, Conn., Jan. 19, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Canada will defend its International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) Championship this May when it faces other global hockey superpowers in the sport's premier annual tournament, the 2016 IIHF World Ice Hockey Championships. The event, being broadcast on both ONE World Sports and NBC Sports Network (NBCSN), will feature 16 national teams from around the world, including 2015 bronze medalist, the United States.

Under an agreement with IIHF rights holder NBC Sports Group, approximately 20 of the games will air live from the host cities of Moscow and St. Petersburg, Russia, on ONE World Sports, America's Network for Global Sports. The network also serves as the exclusive U.S. TV home of the Russia-based Kontinental Hockey League (KHL) as well as Europe's Champions Hockey League (CHL) tournament, of which the IIHF is a partner.

"ONE World Sports is thrilled to partner with NBC Sports to provide all of the IIHF World Ice Hockey Championships to passionate hockey fans who are excited to see every minute of action in this best-of-the-best global hockey event," said Joel Feld, ONE World Sports Executive Vice President, Programming & Production. "In a little more than two years, ONE World Sports has been able to develop an identity as a trusted destination for fans who want to see a broad range of high-caliber, globally popular sports played beyond the United States."

ONE World Sports' coverage begins with Sweden's game against Latvia on May 6 and includes defending champion Canada's face-off against Finland on May 17. All games broadcast by ONE World Sports will be available across the network's platforms including linear, web and app, Watch ONE World Sports. Highlights of all games broadcast on both ONE World Sports and NBCSN will also be available on ONE World Sports' various platforms.

The 2015 IIHF tournament marked the retirement from global competition of legendary right-winger Jaromír Jágr, the veteran of 10 NHL teams who earned the tournament's MVP playing for his home team of the Czech Republic. The Czech Republic, which also served as the 2015 tournament's host country, finished fourth behind Canada, Russia and the United States. Leading the scoring in last year's tournament, at 14 goals, was Dallas Stars Center Jason Spezza, playing for Canada, whose team was captained by Pittsburgh Penguins Center Sidney Crosby. Boasting the 2015 tournament's leading goaltender was the United States, with Michigan-born Connor Hellebuyck, who plays for the Winnipeg Jets.
