Entone, a provider of broadband video and home connectivity solutions, and Sonic Solutions, a provider of Hollywood to Home applications, have announced a new partnership to offer a complete entertainment solution that will bring together live broadcast TV and DVR capabilities and access to over-the-top entertainment.

 

The comprehensive solution will be powered by Roxio (News - Alert) CinemaNow and will help telecommunications operators to take advantage of new and growing opportunities in the OTT market segment.

 

According to Sonic, Roxio CinemaNow features industry-standard DRM and encoding and adaptive-delivery technologies, enabling secure, device-optimized playback of its content offerings. Sonic claims that their new solution will bring together Roxio CinemaNow’s rich content offering and Entone’s (News - Alert) renowned traditional pay TV and online media services to help operators offer video services to their existing and growing broadband subscriber base.

 

Entone said that operators, using the new solution offered through its partnership, can supplement managed services by providing online video as part of their service without requiring consumers to invest in additional equipment.

 

The integration of the Roxio CinemaNow technology platform will provide operators access to larger libraries of movies and videos, at the same time, providing consumers an enhanced viewing experience via a single user interface and remote control.

 

Entone claims that its products are designed to offer access to rich media, including live television and recorded content, throughout the home without requiring new wiring or set-tops at each TV. With Entone’s new hybrid TV service platform, the availability of recorded content includes both programs stored on a whole-home DVR or on cloud-based services such as Roxio CinemaNow.

 

Mark Ely, executive vice president of strategy for Sonic Solutions, said Entone is a pioneer in integrating OTT services into the operator model. Through their partnership, Sonic is able to leverage Entone’s direct channel of more than 80 telco operators to expand their customer base and device ecosystem. With Entone’s hybrid TV service platform, consumers can now access Roxio CinemaNow powered services conveniently from any TV in the home.

 

Roxio CinemaNow powered premium services will be available to Entone’s telco customers via an IPTV (News - Alert) service model or via Entone’s new SelecTV service that is stated to be released later this year.
